150 Telecoms Jobs Available! Mayor Urges Local Workers To Apply

Mayor Ben Houchen visited telecoms company Map Group following the announcement that it is hiring 150 new staff in Tees Valley.

Map Group, which works with Virgin Media and BT to bring fibre optic broadband to residents across the region, currently employs 400 people across its two sites, at Stockton’s Preston Farm and Portrack.

Earlier this year, Map Group secured an extra 200 high-quality permanent jobs for the area after it won a contract to deliver cabling and infrastructure for major projects across the region.

During the visit, Mayor Houchen met Matty Carlin, Map Group’s Strategy and Development Director, who laid out the company’s vision for growth and discussed the future of broadband in the region.

Salaries for the new roles begin at £24,000, and no experience is necessary. Successful applicants will be put on a training course and get hands-on experience in the fibre-optics sector.

Mayor Houchen said: “These are good quality, well paid jobs – plus you don’t need any experience. Map Group has been showing other businesses how it’s done over the past year, demonstrating a very impressive amount of growth in a very short time.

“This latest announcement, of high-quality jobs for our local people, is very welcome indeed. It shows Map Group has one eye on the future and is ready, willing and able to and help make the Tees Valley a success. I hope as many local people as possible apply for these jobs.”

Matty Carlin said: “We’re passionate about Tees Valley and want to fill these roles with local people. We have been able to take advantage of a very fast-growing field to expand, deliver good jobs and help make a change for the people in our region.

“I’d ask anyone to apply, no experience is necessary. Our partners CableCom will give people all the training and experience that they need, and we will also be employing apprentices too.”
