These ward employment rates are designed to be compatible with borough rates produced by the Annual Population Survey (APS). To produce them, the APS estimates of those not in work are divided between wards. Firstly, current recipients of DWP Non-work benefits in each ward are calculated from LSOA level data. The remaining people not in work are allocated to wards according to the distribution from the 2001 Census. These two figures give us the total number of people not in work in each ward, and thus the number employed, and the employment rate, can be calculated. The figures are all percentages of the male resident population aged 16-64, with adjustments to remove the prison population from the calculation.
These figures are updated quarterly
