Hi, I’m Maddy, one of two Marketing and Communications interns at Tees Valley Combined Authority.
I applied for this internship towards the end of my third year at university, eager to gain meaningful, hands-on experience before committing to future graduate job applications. What made this opportunity even more appealing was that it was right on my doorstep, an ideal way to explore a new professional environment without needing to relocate.
At the time, I wasn’t entirely sure what career path I wanted to pursue, so this internship felt like the perfect way to explore the communications and marketing field in a real-world setting. And it absolutely delivered.
Over the past two months, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work as a Marketing and Communications Intern. From day one, the team was welcoming, supportive, and committed to giving me a wide range of experiences. I was trusted with meaningful tasks across the department, which helped me build a diverse skillset and a solid foundation for future roles.
Some of the highlights from my time here include:
The team also helped me build a strong portfolio and gave me the tools and confidence to continue growing. A major bonus has been the opportunity to extend my internship for a few more months now that I’ve finished university, giving me the chance to continue developing my skills in a professional environment I’ve really enjoyed.
Looking ahead, I now plan to pursue a career in communications and marketing, with a particular interest in public sector organisations, whether that’s working with a charity, political body, or another organisation making a positive impact.
To anyone considering applying for this internship: go for it. It’s a brilliant opportunity to explore your interests, gain valuable experience, and work with a team that genuinely supports your growth.
