Middlesbrough and Hartlepool Development Corporations are local planning authorities with responsibility for an area of Middlesbrough town centre and Middlehaven and Hartlepool, respectively. Each Development Corporation deals with all planning applications and planning enquiries for their areas. Independent Members are now being recruited to each Development Corporation’s Audit & Governance Committee.
The Audit & Governance Committee has a vital role to play in the work of each of the Development Corporations, providing oversight of financial statements, audit arrangements, internal controls and compliance with laws and regulations.
The Committee provides independent review of governance, risk management and control frameworks and oversees the financial reporting and annual governance processes. It oversees internal audit and external audit, helping to ensure efficient and effective assurance arrangements are in place.
The Committee is to be made up of an Independent Chair, a member of the Tees Valley Combined Authority’s Audit & Governance Committee and other independent members who are to be appointed by the Development Corporation Boards.
