Business Leaders Sought to Support Combined Authority Objectives

Tees Valley Combined Authority is reaching out to local business leaders to support its ambitions as it takes on its new responsibilities for transport, skills, infrastructure, innovation, investment and jobs.

To work alongside the new Tees Valley Mayor, who will be elected in May to chair the Combined Authority, and the Council Leaders it aims to establish an active, committed and diverse group of business leaders to play a key role in the economic transformation of the Tees Valley.

Some members of the group will serve on the Local Enterprise Partnership and play a formal role in its governance and others will be tasked with:

• Supporting and offering advice to the mayor and Combined Authority
• Championing and promoting specific initiatives from the business perspective
• Representing the Tees Valley nationally and internationally
• Ensuring a strong business voice over decision- making
• Helping deliver the Strategic Economic Plan

Paul Booth, chair of Tees Valley Local Enterprise Partnership and Tees Valley Combined Authority Board Member, said:   “The ambitious devolution deal has secured additional funding and powers to drive forward the Tees Valley economy.     The Combined Authority cannot achieve its ambitions in the key areas of responsibility without the commitment of the local business community.

“The diverse and broadly representative group of business leaders will be drawn from different sectors, towns, size of business, experience and background with the vision and drive to play a key role in supporting the work of the Combined Authority and building on the significant successes already achieved.”
