Supporting the creation of apprenticeships across the Tees Valley.

The Apprenticeship Support Grant is designed to help employers who are committed to creating a new apprenticeship, or progressing their existing apprentice onto a higher level of apprenticeship, with grants of £2,000 or £3,000.

The Apprenticeship Support Grant supports SMEs who create apprenticeships in sectors facing high demand and growth from employers, as identified in the Tees Valley’s Strategic Economic Plan. The priority sectors being supported by the grant are:

 

Advanced Manufacturing Process, Chemicals & Energy
Logistics Health & Biologics
Digital & Creative Business & Professional Services
Construction Health Care
Culture & Leisure Education

What funding is available?

For SMEs identified by Tees Valley Combined Authority as being in one of the Priority Sectors, there are two grants available:

  • £3,000 for apprentices aged 16-18
  • £2,000 for apprentices aged 19+

For SMEs not identified as being in one of the Priority Sectors, there is a grant of £500 available for apprentices aged 19+.

Tees Valley Combined Authority will assess the application and will advise on which grant, if any, you could be eligible for.

Applications must be made within 4 weeks of the training start date. If your application supports progression, then the application must be made within 4 weeks of the new training start date. Any applications received after this timeframe will not be considered.

The Apprenticeship training must be provided by a training provider approved by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).

Who is eligible?

The employer and apprentice must meet the following criteria:

  • SME (249 or less employees across all sites) – Priority Sectors only.
  • SME (49 or less employees across all sites) – Non-Priority Sectors.
  • Workplace must be in the Tees Valley.
  • Business must have been trading for a minimum of 12 months prior to the apprentice starting.
  • Apprentice must be paid ANMW (Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage)
  • Must commit to completing a minimum of 12 months or the time it takes to complete the apprenticeship.

 

How to Apply

Follow the five steps below to apply for an Apprenticeship Support Grant, using the documents linked below.

 

Step 1

Check if the workplace of the Apprentice is within Tees Valley by using the ASG Postcode Checker, postcode must be entered with no spaces.

If the apprentices workplace is not within Tees Valley we would be unable to support, please look at the grants which may be available through the national scheme Employing an apprentice: Get funding – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

 

Step 2

If the workplace is within Tees Valley, download and read the Grant Guidance notes which provide information on the eligibility criteria for the employer and the apprentice as well as the payment process.

 

Step 3

If you would like to apply, download and complete the ASG Application and Employer Commitment.

All sections must be fully completed and it must be signed. Once complete, return the ASG Application and Employer Commitment form by e-mail to [email protected] (postal applications are not being considered).

 

Step 4

You will also need to download and complete the Sub-Threshold Subsidy Aid Declaration Form. 

Once fully completed please e-mail over with your application and ensure the original hand signed document is sent in the post to;

Step 5

The application will then be assessed against the criteria, and we will be in touch within 10 working days.

Please be aware we are not accepting postal applications, any applications received by post will not be considered, all applications must be sent by e-mail to [email protected]. The only document we require by post is the Sub-Threshold Subsidy Aid Declaration Form.
