Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage

 Mobile

Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) is widely acknowledged as the only viable technology able to reduce industrial CO₂ emissions and achieve cost-effective
decarbonisation across industry sectors.

Net Zero Teesside

Net Zero Teesside is the anchor project to deliver carbon capture, utilisation and storage in the Tees Valley industrial cluster. Led by bp, it is the UK’s premier CCUS project.

Net Zero Teesside Power will be world’s first commercial-scale gas-fired power station with carbon capture. It will form the hub of a decarbonised group of industries on Teesside who will share the CO2 transportation and storage infrastructure being developed by the Northern Endurance Partnership to serve the East Coast Cluster.

What the project will deliver

  • Net Zero Teesside is a £1.5billion investment that will bring 5,500 direct jobs to the region
  • The UK’s first fully integrated, commercial-scale gas-fired power station with carbon capture, utilisation and storage capabilities, paving the way to establish a fully decarbonised industrial cluster by 2040.
  • Will have an electrical output of 860MW, enough to power up to 1.3million homes per year
  • Create and support up to 4,000 jobs during its construction and add up to £300 million to the economy each year
  • Part of the Northern Endurance Partnership’s East Coast Cluster
  • Will capture and store up to two million tonnes of CO2 per year

The Tees Valley emitters
