Boulby Mine Visit

Tees Valley Supply Chain programme and the UKRI team at Boulby Mine are pleased to offer beneficiaries the chance to visit this unique site on Tuesday 23 June. Boulby is internationally recognised as a ‘quiet place in the universe’, where scientific studies can take place with minimal interference from natural background radiation. Research at the mine includes astrophysics, such as the search for dark matter, alongside work on ultra-low background material screening, geology, geophysics, climate, the environment, and life in extreme environments on Earth and beyond. Due to space and health and safety requirements, places on the physical tour are limited to 15 and demand is expected to exceed capacity, so attendees will be selected in advance. Anyone who registers but is not selected will still be able to join virtually via a live link hosted by Land of Iron in nearby Skinningrove, an independent museum celebrating local iron and steel heritage.
