We already have a thriving healthcare economy with major global players such as Fujifilm Diosynth and Hart Biologicals already taking advantage of what the area has to offer.
- Part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, the Centre for Process Innovation is a technology innovation centre that uses applied knowledge in science and engineering to enable clients to develop, prove, prototype and scale up the next generation of products and processes. It is also home to the £38 million National Biologics Manufacturing Centre which opened in Darlington in 2015 and will support the growth of the UK biologics industry.
- Durham University is a leading healthcare research university with a base in Tees Valley. Their Centre for Integrated Health Care Research provides an academic interface for health care professionals. The Centre provides research training and mentoring and is funded to facilitate academic development to primary care professionals.
- The South Tees Institute of Learning, Research and Innovation is based at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and forms part of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Institute brings together all of the Trusts learning, research, training development functions into one.
