Billions of pounds in investment is already under way or planned in our borough, which will provide well-paid jobs in the industries of the future, giving families a high standard of living for years to come.
In Redcar itself, millions are being invested in transformational projects which will attract residents and visitors into to town centre and boost our many businesses.
They include:
- The Lookout – an £18m investment in a family entertainment and cultural centre, which will also house a state-of-the-art library, is well under way. The Lookout will provide space for people to meet, relax and enjoy a bite to eat. Are you a leisure or food and beverage business looking for a new first-class site? It will also host cultural events and will attract a wide range of residents and visitors to the town centre. The Lookout will sit between a transformed High Street and the seafront Esplanade, and the regeneration will bring a new vibrancy to the town centre which supports local independent businesses and encourages further investment and job creation.
- Redcar Central Station – our Grade II listed Victorian station has been transformed with an £8m investment, providing an impressive gateway to Redcar. The station building provides great opportunities for restaurants, shops, coffee shops and breweries to house their business in the impressively revamped area. Discussions are currently under way with potential tenants and we continue to seek interest from businesses. The station will soon provide a fitting welcome for visitors to a town on the rise.
- Coatham Leisure Quarter – phase one of the development of the area alongside the impressive beach saw a new children’s play area, crazy golf course, a coastal sports and activity centre and additional parking. The area is perfect for family events and one of them, the council’s popular Kite Festival, attracted around 30,000 visitors last year. Now we are further looking to develop the offering, including, at the heart of the leisure quarter, a stunning location for a seafront hotel. The site takes advantage of the mix of popular modern attractions and the splendour of Redcar’s bandstand and boating lake. We welcome further input from investors to deliver the next phase of development.
- Kirkleatham Walled Garden – a £10m investment on the historic Kirkleatham estate brought the Grade II listed walled garden back to life after being closed for more than 30 years. The historic attraction has been restored to its former glory and it now features formal gardens, a science garden, areas for activities and a glasshouse, along with a café, shop and an impressive 350-seat pavilion, which is available for events such as weddings, dinners, and corporate events. The attraction is a visitor attraction of national quality, and we now have ambition to develop the Kirkleatham Stable block on the estate and welcome conversations with potential businesses and investors to use a redeveloped site.
Each of these projects improve quality of life and drive the economy by providing transformative regeneration and we are ready and willing to work with investors and developer to further grow and transform our town centre and its surrounds.
