Redcar Town Centre Connectivity

Closing Date: 16th August 2024

Location: Redcar and Cleveland

Travel
This consultation is now closed.

Buses in Redcar centre are often delayed. Part of the problem is the rail crossing on West Dyke Road near the railway station, where buses are getting caught in traffic. We have recently committed to carrying out feasibility work to look in more detail for a long-term solution, but this is going to take time to develop and secure the funding to deliver. In the meantime, there is an opportunity to give buses priority in certain areas to reduce bus journey times and improve reliability. There is also an opportunity to improve walking, wheeling, and cycling journeys.

We want your ideas on how we can improve bus journey times, reduce delays, and bring improved infrastructure for walking, wheeling, and cycling in the area.

Our Vision for Redcar Town Centre

Redcar is already being transformed, using money secured through the Government’s Town Deal. This will fund major improvements to deliver a better town centre. These include:

We want to deliver transport improvements to support Redcar’s transformation and economic growth. Our aim is to make sure that journeys can be made safely, quickly, more conveniently, and everyone can easily move around the town centre.

Redcar Town Centre

Lots of people travel into Redcar town centre to access jobs, education, shopping, and other leisure activities. Key destinations include:

  • Redcar Central Station

West Dyke Road Walking, Cycling and Wheeling Improvements

West Dyke Road is an important link into Redcar Town Centre. Existing walking, wheeling, and cycling routes are limited and sharing the road with traffic can feel unsafe for cyclists.

We want to improve walking, wheeling, and cycling by providing dedicated cycle lanes and upgraded and safer crossings.  You can see the proposals we have developed for West Dyke Road by clicking below.
