Great Place Tees Valley

Great Place Tees Valley is an ambitious four-year programme (2018-2021) devised by partners across the Tees Valley and brought together by Tees Valley Combined Authority.  The programme aims to use arts and heritage to create a shared, positive celebration of place and identity across Tees Valley.

Great Place Tees Valley has delivered an exciting range of festivals, community workshops, training and volunteering opportunities, bringing people together to celebrate local heritage and identity, reaching communities in every borough and supporting the area’s economic growth and regeneration.

Great Place Tees Valley is one of 16 Great Place projects across England, made possible with £1.3million Lottery Funding from National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England.

The programme helps cultural and heritage organisations to work together, and with other organisations in other sectors, so that arts, heritage and culture contribute more to meeting local social and economic objectives.

Great Place Tees Valley brings together the five Tees Valley Local Authorities and our cultural organisations, ARC, Theatre Hullabaloo, Mima, Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF), The Northern School of Art, Teesside University, and Tees Valley Arts.  Local  communities are involved in high-quality participatory projects and events,  delivering a range of outcomes including empowerment, personal development, creative skills and a collective voice.

So far, the programme has increased collaboration and partnership working across the Tees Valley, created training and employment opportunities for over 350 local artists and small businesses and supported over 12,000 local people, children and families to create and enjoy cultural activities.
