Enjoy Tees Valley Targets Businesses In Tourism Social Event

The region’s destination marketing service, Enjoy Tees Valley, is calling on the area’s leisure businesses to sign up for its first tourism industry social event.

Taking place on Wednesday, August 29, 5pm-7pm at Middlesbrough’s Jurys Inn, the event will bring together tourism businesses and stakeholders for an update from the Enjoy Tees Valley team, a presentation from an industry partner and the chance for networking.

At this inaugural social, Enjoy Tees Valley will cover the first six months and next steps for the service and Ian Thomas of NewcastleGateshead Initiative will outline the relevance of data collection, with a demonstration of an online platform which will be rolled-out in Tees Valley.

Tees Valley attracts as many day visitors as Newcastle and Gateshead, but it lags behind in overnight stays and national profile, and has been without a destination tourism service for a number of years.

The event aims to bring together the tourism industry to support Enjoy Tees Valley’s goal to attract more than 20million people and add £1billion to the local economy per year by 2021 – creating 3,000 new jobs.

Dave Budd, Mayor of Middlesbrough and Tees Valley Combined Authority cabinet member for culture, said: “We have terrific culture and tourism offerings in our area and we are rightly proud of our home as an excellent place for people to visit.

“By getting our top tourism businesses in one room to share ideas, talk long-term strategy or simply make connections, we can strengthen the industry and shout even louder about everything we have to offer visitors.

“This is vital to increase the visitor pound to safeguard and create jobs and boost the local economy. I’d urge everyone from the tourism sector to sign up because if they share their expertise, the sky’s the limit.”

The Industry Social event will run five times a year, in different venues across the Tees Valley.
