Sustainable Access to Employment Programme
This four-year programme contributes to delivering a high value, low carbon economy by promoting the use of sustainable modes of transport to reduce congestion and cut emissions. It also aims to improve accessibility to employment opportunities for Tees Valley residents through the improvement of walking and cycling access between key employment and housing sites and access to existing transport networks. The Local Growth Fund has supported the capital programme and the DfT Access Fund has provided revenue support to encourage residents to use more sustainable modes of transport and raise awareness of the connectivity to employment possible for residents.
Examples of some of the projects within the programme include:
- Parkgate Bridge linking Central Park Enterprise Zone to Darlington Rail Station: £945,000
- Provision of a cycling and walking crossing across the A179 to connect Oakesway to the Bishop Cuthbert Housing area and improve access to the employment: £80,000
- Provision of cycling and walking infrastructure along the major East / West Transport Corridor between Acklam Road and Marton Road in Middlesbrough improving access to employment and links to James Cook University Hospital: £778,000
