Mayor Visits Dental Surgery After Funding Leads To Huge Upgrade

A dental practice which has recently unveiled a new £500,000 implant suite has welcomed Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen to see the results of its “impressive” upgrade.

The Mayor visited Queensway Dental in Billingham, which earlier this month revealed a new purpose-built 2,300sq ft expansion, expected to create ten additional jobs in the area and encourage 10,000 more people to undergo dental work.

Queensway Dental was established 25 years ago when Dr Paul Averley took over a four-surgery dental practice. It now receives referrals from all across the region to its clinics in Billingham and Jesmond and oral surgery in Darlington and Ferryhill.

The practice employs approximately 140 staff from partners to dental technicians across its four sites, providing hundreds of different services, from normal dentistry to cosmetic procedures. The company was recently awarded Company of the Year at the 2019 North East Business Awards.

The Mayor met the partners and Business Development Manager Vicky Philipson to discuss the business’s growth, tour the lab and see its acquisition of cutting-edge technology, including two 3D dental printing machines, which will deliver accurate 3D models of a patient’s teeth to be used during implant work. Its laboratory upgrades have been supported by £8,184 of European Regional Development Fund grants via Tees Valley Business Compass.

Mayor Houchen said: “Queensway Dental has been providing a great service to Tees Valley residents for almost three decades. This hugely impressive lab upgrade means patients can access state-of-the-art technology and be assured they are receiving the best possible treatment.

“When I talk about innovation, I’m usually referring to areas such as advanced manufacturing, but this just shows it comes in many shapes and lots of different sectors. Queensway Dental’s continued significant investment shows confidence in the region and here’s to another quarter-century – and beyond – of growth.”
