Organisations are today (14 April) being invited to submit bids into a new fund that aims to support communities across the region.
Applications are now open to the UK Community Renewal Fund, which will help finance innovative new projects to boost local growth and revitalise communities by building on local knowledge and targeting those who need it most.
Organisations of all types – including private, charitable, voluntary and community organisations, universities, colleges and local authorities – can apply, to develop projects supporting investment in skills, support for employment and investment in business and communities.
Bids are particularly encouraged if they are large-scale, of £500,000 or more, and if they address local priorities.
These activities could include piloting new forms of training or learning; providing tailored support for those seeking work or work experience; supporting business growth, diversification or start-up and scale-up activity, improving connectivity in rural areas or supporting the cultural sector.
Bids will be assessed by the Combined Authority and those selected will then be submitted to Government for consideration, with the Authority paying grants and managing the performance of successful projects.
Julie Gilhespie, Tees Valley Combined Authority Group Chief Executive, said: “Given the huge impact that coronavirus has had on our economy, businesses and towns, it’s more important than ever to make sure organisations of all types have the chance to turn their fresh ideas into a reality to boost our communities and help local people.
“As lockdown restrictions are eased, we have huge opportunities to collaborate and think differently to grow businesses, help people into work and develop our area and this fund gives us scope for innovative new schemes and activity. Projects could be anything from creating partnerships to help us build on our net zero ambitions to trialling new ways to get people back into employment.
“I would call on any local body or organisation to find out more and submit their bids – we would particularly welcome those that cut across all of the key themes, are collaborative and work across local authorities to help transform the Tees Valley.”
Bids must be submitted by 12noon on Friday, 14 May 2021.
