Bus Deal Bonanza For All the Family as Holidays Ramp Up

A bonanza of bus deals for summer and beyond are up for grabs as the holidays get into full swing.

Young people aged 21 and under can now pick up a £3 day ticket valid all day local bus services in the Tees Valley area.

A mayoral pledge for a £1 cap on fares for all the same age group also continues on single journeys in and out of our region following its launch in June.

Families can also enjoy lower prices trips this summer when accompanied by an adult travelling with a valid single, day, week or period pass. Up to three children under 11 can travel free with an adult on Arriva and Stagecoach routes.

A £3.5million package from the Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen and the Combined Authority is funding the £1 fare cap.

This has come with the help of Department for Transport and support from its Bus Service Improvement Plan, and will run until June 2025.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to secure the £3-a-day deal for Under 21s on top of fulfilling my pledge for £1 fares.

“Whether it’s for enjoying the great outdoors, getting to work, or heading into our town centres, it’s great we can support our young people are families in getting about through the summer and into next year.

“We work closely with our operators to get the best deal possible for passengers – and I’m pleased with how we’ve made strides together, particularly this year.

“Beyond the summer, our fare caps will help our young people access training, skills and good quality local jobs being delivered both now and in the near future.”

Officials have been working with St Bede’s Catholic Academy, in Stockton, and Teesside University to shape some of the messaging around the campaign.

Cllr Steve Harker, Leader of Darlington Borough Council and Transport Portfolio Holder at the Combined Authority, added: “Making sure our transport network is affordable and reliable is essential for our young people and families, and I’m pleased we’re delivering on these discounted fares.

“The hard work doesn’t stop – and we need to continue to drive forward improvements to unlock access to more opportunities for everyone across our region.”
