Couple Tie The Knot At Airport As Mayor Makes Guest Appearance

Teesside Airport has hosted a couple’s special day with the Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen dropping in to make a guest appearance.

Jovelyn and Robert Livett tied the knot at Darlington Registry Office before the airport Skybar hosted their wedding reception last Saturday (20 May).

The pair met in Norway in 2018 and cemented their relationship with a two-week road trip through the country’s mountains and hills.

The Mayor dropped in on celebrations after receiving a surprise invite to congratulate the happy couple.

Mr Livett said: “We decided to have our wedding reception at the airport as the Skybar is very nice and smart with a lovely outlook over the Cleveland Hills.

“Aside from that though, the airport is a local amenity that is very close to our heart. All our family use it and want to see it expand and succeed.

He added: “It was a big honour for us to have Mayor Houchen attend our wedding as we had invited him to make a special guest appearance. We are glad he accepted.”

Robert, from Darlington, works in customer services in the telecommunications industry while Jovelyn is from Bohol, in the Philippines, and has worked around Europe as an au pair.

Both are heading to Dorset for their honeymoon before a trip out to Mexico in 2024.

Mr Livett also used the reception to unveil a surprise present for his mum’s 70th birthday – a trip to Antalya from Teesside in September.

The wedding is the latest event to be held at Teesside Airport, which offers a range of flexible spaces to cater for parties from 20 to 400 people, whatever the function.

Mayor Houchen said: “Mr Livett contacted me to ask if I would drop in on their big day. How could I say no!

“Massive congratulations to Robert and Jovelyn for tying the knot. It was lovely that they are so passionate about our amazing airport that they chose to celebrate with their friends and family here.

“We wish them all the best for married life and I’m sure they’ll be using our terminal again soon.”
