Darlington-based Braddan Structures Limited is expanding its business and creating four local jobs after receiving funding from the Capital Grant Scheme to purchase a new Mobile Crane.

Braddan Structures Limited is as an industry leader and innovator within the steel construction field, working on major infrastructure projects including schools, hospitals and retail outlets.

The company identified an opportunity to acquire the Mobile Crane which enabled it to increase its capacity to undertake further projects, including a Waitrose development in Haywards Heath and a new office development in St Helier, Jersey for Elland Steel Structures Ltd, both contracts would not have been possible without the acquisition of the new crane.

The Capital Grant Scheme aims to support supply chain companies nationwide affected by the closure of SSI and manufacturing and service sector companies based in the Tees Valley.

Braddan Structures Limited was not directly affected by the SSI closure but the scheme is also designed to support projects that will create new, sustainable, private sector jobs and support private sector investment. Projects must involve capital expenditure aimed at expanding the business.

Carl Caddick from Braddan Structures Limited said: “We were turning away projects as we simply didn’t have enough capacity or resources to take them on.

“The purchase of the mobile crane, which represented a significant investment for the company, has enabled us to expand our operation and created several full-time positions for local people.

“The support from the Capital Grant Scheme has been invaluable and I would strongly recommend other businesses to explore the options available.”

Paul Booth, Chairman, Tees Valley Unlimited and member of Tees Valley Combined Authority said: “Braddan Structures Limited is one of a number of companies taking advantage of the Capital Grant Scheme to grow their business and create employment opportunities in the region.

“The Tees Valley economy, and its people, are resilient and there is a great deal of good news being generated by local businesses taking advantage of the support that is available through the Capital Grant and other schemes.”
