An event to showcase high-quality apprenticeships, technical training and routes into jobs is now open for booking.

Young people and their families across Redcar and Cleveland – and our whole region – are being urged to attend a major careers event with top employers next month at Kirkleatham Walled Garden, Redcar.

The free Apprenticeships and Technical Pathways Event, hosted by the Combined Authority, will take place on Thursday 19 June, from 5pm to 7.30pm.

Featuring more 40 employers, colleges and training providers, the fresh event follows the success of a packed Teesside Airport apprenticeships event in February which saw hundreds of young people and parents attend to hear directly from employers and explore pathways to rewarding local careers.

The Walled Garden will be home to dozens of representatives available to discuss opportunities and future career routes across a wide range of industries, including healthcare, life sciences, digital, engineering, the creative sector and professional services.

Featured employers and organisations confirmed to attend include:

  • Johnson Matthey
  • Tees Components
  • Turner & Townsend
  • Muckle Legal Services
  • Active Financial Planners
  • Litchfields Planning & Development Consultancy
  • Army, Navy, and RAF
  • NHS
  • Rosedene Nurseries
  • Cybernorth
  • Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council
  • Northeast Screen
  • National Careers Service
  • Specsavers
  • Willmott Dixon

Young people will be able to speak to staff at the region’s most in-demand sectors, and discover the best ways to access apprenticeships, T Levels, and other technical routes to meet the needs of employers and build a good career.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “With major projects like Net Zero Teesside now underway at Teesworks, and hundreds of new jobs coming through our booming sectors – from green energy to the expanding film and TV studios in Hartlepool – we’re delivering opportunities across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool like never before.

“We’ve laid the foundations through these big projects, but getting the right skills into tens of thousands of our young people is arguably the biggest challenge we now need to tackle.

“We’ve made some strides, but there’s a lot of work still to do – and that builds by making sure local people know what’s out there and how to access it.

“There’s never been a better time to stay local and go far.

“Whether it’s construction, healthcare, law or our rising digital industries, there’s a route into a great career here on our doorstep – so I’d urge anyone interested, or just curious, to check this event out, find out what employers are looking for – but also let them know what you need to get what you want.”
