Just One Week To Go Until Tees Valley Mayoral Election

Tees Valley Combined Authority | Published on: 29th April 2021

With only seven days to go until the Tees Valley Mayoral Election on Thursday 6 May, residents from across Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees are being reminded of the importance of voting.

By voting in the Mayoral election, you can get your voice heard on the future of the region and how you would like to see it shaped.

The Tees Valley Mayor chairs the Combined Authority and works alongside the five Tees Valley councils to improve the economy of the area, bring in new investment and create jobs. The powers devolved to the Mayor include those for boosting business growth and investment, transport, skills and adult education.

Polling stations will open from 7am until 10pm on Thursday 6 May. The location of your nearest station will be displayed on your polling card. If you have lost your card, you can still vote, but first check which polling station you should attend by visiting wheredoivote.co.uk and simply enter your postcode.

The deadline to obtain a postal vote as well as a proxy vote has now passed. However, should you now find yourself unable to attend a polling station and still wish to vote, Emergency Proxy votes have now been introduced.

An Emergency Proxy vote is where you may obtain permission for somebody to vote on your behalf if you are physically unable to attend a polling station on the day of the election and must be applied for by 5pm on polling day.

To be eligible, you must have had an emergency which means you can’t vote in person that you were not aware of before the normal proxy vote deadline. This could be if you are self-isolating due to the coronavirus, have another medical emergency or are away for work.
