Last Chance For Tees Valley Residents to Secure Their Vote

RESIDENTS of the Tees Valley have until 5pm tomorrow (Thursday, April 13) to register to vote for a Tees Valley Mayor.

People that live in Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockon-on-Tees have until 5pm tomorrow (Thursday, April 13) to register to vote in the biggest shake-up of governance across their home area in a generation.

The landmark vote on May 4 will decide on a Tees Valley Mayor – the new figurehead of devolved decision-making in the area.

Those aged 18 and over, and not already registered to vote, should visit www.teesvalleymayor.co.uk or contact the Electoral Services department of their local council to register.

A spokesperson for Tees Valley Combined Authority, said: “This is such an important vote for the people of Tees Valley.

“The Tees Valley Mayor will have a huge impact on our daily live’s in the area – including influence over opportunities for young people, provision of road, rail and bus services, attracting new jobs and providing access to housing.

“It’s vital voices of eligible voters are heard in order to shape the area’s future and this is a real chance for that to happen.”

The Tees Valley Mayor will be democratically accountable for, and have influence over, decision making in the area.

The Tees Valley Mayor’s remit includes provision of infrastructure and transport, access to affordable housing, investment in skills and jobs, and investment in culture and tourism.

Those already registered to vote who would like to vote by post have until 5pm on Tuesday, April 18. To do so visit: gov.uk/register-to-vote
