Last Chance To Have Your Say On Strategic Transport Plan

Tees Valley Combined Authority | Published on: 13th November 2019

There are just days left for people in Tees Valley to have their say on the priorities and proposals for the future of travel across the region.

The draft Strategic Transport Plan, which was put out to public consultation in August, includes £257million of schemes to improve transport in the region.

The opportunity for members of the public to comment on the proposals is now running out, with the consultation set to close on Wednesday, November 20.

The plan covers all forms of transport, from roads, rail and air to buses and sustainable travel such as walking and cycling routes. It looks at major themes of national rail, major roads, connecting centres, unlocking key sites, and local journeys while delivering social equity and protecting and enhancing the environment.

As well as detailing upgrades to the transport network to allow people to get around quicker and smoother than ever before, the plan also considers the freight needs of businesses.

A series of seven events have run across Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees but copies of documents are still available in municipal buildings across the region and can also be found online.

The Combined Authority’s Head of Transport, Tom Bryant, said: “This Strategic Transport Plan is a huge piece of work which is central to how we’re going to deliver our vision of a high-quality, clean, quick, affordable, reliable and safe transport network that serves every corner of Tees Valley.

“No matter how people get about – by car, bus, train or cycling – there is something in here that will be important to everyone. It’s vital that we get the views of as many people as we can, so I’d ask them to take this last chance to check out the consultation and get in touch with their feedback.”

Informed by the findings of the consultation, the final Strategic Transport Plan will be approved in early 2020.
