Mayor Offers 20,000 Bottles of Hand Sanitiser to Tees Valley Charities, Community Groups and Care Settings

Mayor Ben Houchen is offering 20,000 bottles of hand sanitiser to charities, community groups and care settings across the Tees Valley to help them fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Last month, the Mayor spearheaded the delivery 50,000 100ml bottles directly to schools, social workers, carers and coronavirus responders through local councils across the region to help protect the health and wellbeing of local people closely involved in responding to the virus.

He is now urging charities, community groups and care settings to get in touch via his business support service – either by calling 01642 662777 or emailing [email protected] – so those organisations can get the hand sanitiser they need to carry on their important work during this difficult time.

Bottles have also been provided to NHS GP practices, Cleveland Police and members of the fire brigade.

Mayor Houchen said: “We must do everything we can to make the health and safety of our workers our top priority throughout the coronavirus pandemic, especially as the government is now actively encouraging more people to go back to work.

“That is why I have already provided tens of thousands of bottles of hand sanitiser to the key workers in Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool who have needed it the most as they continue to do an incredible job during this very difficult time.

“But I want to make sure no one is left out, so I am urging charities, community groups and care settings to get in touch so that they can get the hand sanitiser they need so that they can carry on doing their vital work.

“Good hand hygiene is central to Government and Public Health England advice to help us continue to slow infection rates. I want to encourage everyone to continue to follow these vital guidelines and be vigilant in washing their hands as they go outside and continue to abide by the social distancing measures.”

The bottles were secured from Stockton-based Millennium Nails, which specialises in the supply of hand sanitiser to the health and beauty treatment sector.

The gel will be delivered by a local businessman who wanted to do something to help the community after being furloughed at work and has offered his time and delivery vans to help out.
