Mayor Urges Local People To Apply For New Jobs Available At Firms Helping To Redevelop Teesworks

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen is urging people looking for work across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool to apply for a host of new jobs that are now available at companies which have helped to redevelop Teesworks.

As part of the Mayor’s Jobs Week, which is seeing Mayor Houchen promoting jobs and opportunities across the Tees Valley, he is calling on local people to apply for vacancies at the fantastic local businesses who, over the last 6 months, have been preparing land at Teesworks, the UK’s largest industrial zone, for redevelopment.

In July, Mayor Houchen set out his 12-month plan for jobs at the former Redcar Steelworks site, setting a target of creating 775 jobs over 12 months. In less than half that time, 557 have already been created on site.

Esh Group, who are currently on site working on the new Teesworks gatehouse and entrance, are recruiting for 12 Groundworker Operatives to deliver repairs and maintenance on a wastewater network across the Tees Valley. Those interested can apply online at www.eshgroup.co.uk/careers.

Acumen are currently recruiting for five new roles which have directly come about due to their contract at Teesworks demolishing the heavy fuel oil tanks on site. They are looking for a range of specialist and management positions including: a Business Development Manager; a Senior Accounts Manager; a Internal Accounts Manager; a Graduate Technical Assessor and an Onsite Chemist and Technical Assessor. All positions can be found at www.acumenwaste.co.uk/careers.

Seymour Civil Engineering, who have been working on the Dorman Point site at Teesworks, are currently recruiting for a number of roles involving concrete work, mason paving and pipe laying. Vacancies and more information can be found at www.seymourcec.co.uk/careers.php, whilst anyone interesting in working at Seymour’s can email [email protected].

Hall Construction, who have been working on site at South Bank, are always accepting CV’s and keep them on file for the next batch of opportunities. Anyone interested can email [email protected].

Mayor Houchen said: “There is so much happening on the Teesworks site I know it is hard to keep up! But the main thing that is happening is we are creating good quality, well paid local jobs for local people right now.

“We talk a lot about building for the future with all our major projects, such as Net Zero Teesside and our plans for offshore wind, which is absolutely the right thing to do as we plan for an exciting long term, clean future and all the investment and jobs that come with it, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t happening now, and we’ve already created 557 jobs on site already in the last few months alone.

“These fantastic local businesses have done a brilliant job getting the Teesworks site ready for redevelopment, and as all these vacancies show, there are so many different opportunities for people of all ages, from apprentices and graduates right through to managers, to get involved. That’s why I am doing everything I can to let people know about the jobs we are helping to create so we can fill them with talented local people from Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool.

“This has been a tough year for families and businesses because of the coronavirus pandemic, but it would be fantastic to give local people the ideal early Christmas present of a job to look forward to next year, giving them certainty about the future, security and more money in their back pocket for themselves and their families.

“I urge anyone in Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool to get in touch with these fantastic local businesses who have working at Teesworks and get applying.”

Last month, Mayor Houchen announced military veterans are to be guaranteed an interview for jobs created at Teesworks.

The pledge will ensure veterans are given an interview, provided that they meet the relevant criteria for the post and are within 12-weeks of their discharge date or have the armed forces as their last long-term employer.
