A specialist safety firm is set to establish the National Mines & Tunnels Rescue Service in the Tees Valley, creating a further 35 specialist highly-skilled jobs.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen has hailed the plans of Triton Risk Management which will see them grow their operations at Wilton International in Redcar and across the North East.
The firm, part of Triton Group, is a specialist safety, security and emergency response organisation which deals specifically in high hazard environments. It has been appointed as the sole partner for all specialist safety, security and emergency response requirements as well as supporting the wider training needs for Anglo American and its Woodsmith Project in the North East and North Yorkshire, including all sites on Teesside.
The creation of a new modern National Mines & Tunnels Rescue Service is unique and requires an extremely highly skilled workforce which are to be based here in the Tees Valley. This will be the largest group of specialist personnel in Europe and one of the largest globally.
Triton provides support for the polyhalite mine near Whitby and its connected infrastructure, including the underground conveyor tunnels transporting the materials to a facility in Teesside before export from the Teesworks site. It also works with major organisations, projects and critical national infrastructure within the Mining, Port and Maritime, Energy, Oil & Gas, Aviation and Transport industries and provides safety, security and emergency response services across the UK.
Mayor Houchen said: “This great news demonstrates how major projects like the Woodsmith Mine are creating knock-on specialist opportunities for the people of Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool right here, right now.
“As we continue to grow our sectors and more and more businesses of all types are attracted to the region, we will obviously have a bigger opportunity to increase the expertise and specialisms in our supply chains, and create good-quality, well-paid jobs. This will also naturally lead to more companies wanting to do business here as we have the know-how to help them operate.
“Triton has a proven track-record in delivering a whole range of industrial services across a broad range of sectors and I hope that this will just be the start of their journey here in the region.”
Jonathan Davies, Triton Risk Management, said: “This is a massive vote of confidence in our technical expertise, innovative approach and highly professional and skilled workforce.”
“The enormous growth in the mining and tunnelling industry highlights the exciting times that clearly lie ahead, with large-scale infrastructure projects ongoing around the UK and other major projects in the pipeline, we are firmly placed to ensure we provide world-class safety, security and emergency response services recognised by global organisations such as Anglo American.
“Triton is proud to support the Woodsmith Project, it is bringing enormous economic benefits to the local area and to have been entrusted with securing and protecting such a major project that is providing a massive boost to the economy is a significant milestone for Triton and our future plans.”
