TUI, the UK’s biggest holiday firm, has today (4 August) announced a second summer service when it returns to Teesside Airport next year – to the popular and frequently requested Turkish destination of Antalya.
Every Thursday from 26 May to 22 September next year, holidaymakers will be able to jet off from their local airport to the province, located on Turkey’s south-west coast, which boasts a winning combination of stunning beaches and traditional Turkish heritage.
The route, which will depart Teesside at 09.30 and return at 08:30 UK time, joins TUI’s weekly flights to Palma, Majorca, which will run every Tuesday from 10 May next year.
TUI announced a return to Teesside after nine years last October and this is the 15th route to be secured since the airport was taken back into public ownership two years ago, to save it from closure.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “TUI’s first flight hasn’t even taken off yet but next year’s sales are looking so strong they are already committing to more destinations. It was a fantastic coup to announce that the UK’s biggest holiday firm is coming back to Teesside and this just proves that with a clear plan we can make the airport the success we all know it can be.
“Our summer 2021 schedule is proving popular despite the ongoing difficulties we all face due to the coronavirus pandemic. It’s clear to see that people are eager to use their airport and get away for great value breaks, and I’m sure many more will jump at the chance to get away to Turkey next year.
“TUI’s increased commitment for summer 2022 is another huge vote of confidence, and we’ll continue to work with the firm to see how we can get people from their doorstep and through our terminal to even more fantastic destinations.”
Tickets will go on sale next week at www.tui.co.uk
