Tees Valley Combined Authority | Published on: 9th March 2026
A popular showcase to highlight the best of our region’s engineering strengths over breakfast has heard of two pioneering science and major green energy developments taking place on Teesside.
Friday’s Tees Engineering Network (TEN) breakfast saw more than 100 people take in presentations from both Green Lizard and Boulby Underground Labs on their exciting plans for the future.
The event at Redcar and Cleveland College also saw engineering students find out about some of the opportunities available.
Green Lizard’s Executive Director Holly Kitching and Senior Engineer Dan Stephenson offered insight on their company’s vision for an Energy, Fuel and Chemical Park on 500 acres of land north of the River Tees, in Stockton.
The firm’s work to utilise power from Small Modular Reactor technology alongside Community Nuclear Power featured alongside the firm’s SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) ambitions.
Senior Scientist Dr Paul Scovell talked through some of the work taking place at Boulby Underground Laboratory – including work on quantum technologies, particle physics and its vision to expand its facilities in the next decade.
The morning TEN events bring together subcontractors, manufacturers, project developers, and engineering professionals from across the region to explore emerging projects, share best practice, and strengthen regional supply chains – all over a coffee.
Sharon Lane, Managing Director of Tees Components and TEN organiser, was pleased with the showing.
“It’s brilliant to hear some of the great cutting-edge technology and pioneering science shaping the future on Teesside,” she said.
“This is another great opportunity for our local SMEs to hear from major investors like Green Lizard and about some of the exciting work Boulby Labs. It also offers a great chance to see how they and we can work together on large‑scale energy and industrial projects.”
Chris Rowell, Head of Net Zero at the TVCA, also provided an overview of the Combined Authority’s upcoming Local Growth Plan.
With strategic backing from Tees Valley Combined Authority, TEN is spearheaded by Axiom Eng. Assoc. Ltd and Tees Components Ltd. and informs local firms about major opportunities to foster cross-regional collaboration.
Rob Johnson, from Axiom and TEN, added: “Events like this are about bringing our engineering community together and making sure local companies are plugged into the opportunities coming down the line.
“By hearing directly from innovators and major projects, our supply chain can prepare and play a real role in delivering our region’s industrial future.”
