Revolutionary Covid Sanitiser Technology Comes to Teesside Airport

A locally developed revolutionary sanitiser, which is certified to kill all types of bacteria and enveloped and neutralise viruses, including coronavirus, is set to be rolled out in Teesside Airport’s terminal.

Specialist refrigeration, air conditioning and heating services firm The Aircon Group, based in Thornaby, has developed a water-based, pH-neutral sanitiser named AirSafe which kills 99.9% of enveloped viruses in just one minute.

Aircon Group has conducted 2,500 tests over 18 months to ensure AirSafe is the most effective sanitiser of its type available, and it will soon be applied to the terminal’s air conditioning system following a deep clean. When sprayed inside the system, it will sanitise the air that passes through it for up to six months to keep the terminal safe for passengers and airport workers.

This is the latest partnership between Teesside International and Aircon Group, which have been working together for almost 30 years. It comes after the firm received a £13,255 business growth grant via Tees Valley Business Growth Fund, established by the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority.

During the airport’s recent redevelopment, the firm supplied and installed new air conditioning, extractor fans, ductwork, fire dampers across the building, alongside other improvements. It also provides its services to other businesses based at the airport, such as Cobham Aviation.

“As rules on international travel continue to be relaxed and more and more people from across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool are using our airport for their well-deserved holiday breaks, we need to ensure we’re doing all we can to keep people using our terminal healthy and give them the confidence to travel once again.

“AirSafe will do just that, and shows our region is once again at the forefront of innovation, with companies offering their expertise and doing all they can to combat coronavirus.”
