Teesside Airport Launches Competition for People to Name New Bar

Teesside International Airport | Published on: 5th February 2021

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen is calling on members of the public to help name Teesside International Airport’s new bar – and be in with the chance to win flights from the airport to one of Loganair’s many destinations.

The new bar, located airside in the redeveloped terminal building, will have a modern stylish feel and offer a range of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails as well as non-alcoholic options. It will join the existing bar and kitchen, which is also undergoing a facelift as part of the airport’s major redevelopment.

Mayor Houchen is urging people to put their great ideas forward, with the best idea being used. If that wasn’t enough, the winner will also be awarded two return tickets to a destination of their choice from those operated by Loganair that they can use when current travel restrictions are lifted, and non-essential travel is once again allowed.

People can submit their entries on the Teesside International Airport Website at www.TeessideInternational.com/YourBar until 7pm on Sunday, 21 February, with the winner announced by 8 March.

Mayor Houchen said: “When we brought this airport back into public control and saved it from closure, I vowed to make it an airport owned by local people and run for local people. One of my first moves was to reintroduce its former well-known and much-loved name, Teesside International Airport, after a public vote and now we’re going to listen to the public once again by giving them this chance to name our brand-new bar.

“Last month, the airport celebrated its 80th birthday and has a rich history as an RAF base as well as operating public flights, and we’re now looking forward and all the work we’re doing to support its growth. All of this should help fire up people’s imaginations to come up with suggestions that could encapsulate our region, celebrate our heritage or highlight our aspirations.”

The bar is one part of a wider redevelopment of the airport, which includes previously mothballed areas being brought back into use, new check-in desks, a redeveloped security area including state-of-the-art bag and body scanners and the return of duty free.

The renovations are taking place to offer the best experience possible for the increased number of passengers expected to come through the airport’s doors thanks to the introduction of domestic routes via Loganair and Eastern Airways, expanded summer holiday services with Balkan Holidays and JetsGo Holidays and from securing Ryanair as a low-cost carrier.
