Choices When Leaving School
The government has raised the participation age so that all young people in England are now required to continue in education or training until at least their 18th birthday. This doesn’t necessarily mean they have to continue in full time education, and there are plenty of options available to suit everyone, including:
Stay in their existing school if there is a sixth-form
Other full-time education such as a sixth form or further education college
Apprenticeship or traineeship
Part-time education or training for 20 or more hours a week, as well as a part-time employment or volunteering.
By staying in education longer, young people are more likely to get a higher level of qualification and therefore increase their earning potential over their lifetime.
