Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen has visited a top Tees Valley tech firm that has seen huge growth and is looking to grow its team of talented developers.

Appamondo, based in Middlesbrough’s Boho One, is a digital customer service and engagement solution specialist. It specialises in developing bespoke customer service solutions using the Zendesk software platform that transforms an organisation’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to feedback, complaints and queries from customers across multiple channels. It is also proud to be a Zendesk Premier Partner.

Founded in 2012 by Michael Smith and Rick Hutchinson, the company has an established track record of working with global brands and organisations across a range of sectors.

The company’s success stories include some of the UK’s most recognisable brands, including Arriva Plc, Grand Central, Northern Rail, GoAhead, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, Heals, Dune, GHD, Moss Bros, Mazars, Lyreco, Links of London, Yeo Valley, Peacocks, National Grid, Ascensos and Ventrica.

The company expects its profits to double in 2019 and has plans in place to add to its 15-strong team, with headcount expected to have grown by 40% this year.

The company has been supported with two European Regional Development Fund grants via Tees Valley Business Compass, totalling £10,161 to help the firm achieve a qualification in information security management and support for GDPR as well as developing marketing materials.

Keen to support new talent, the firm has taken advantage of the Apprenticeship Support for Employers funding to support the recruitment of an apprentice. They have also signed up to TeesValleyCareers.com, the £3million initiative to give each young people aged 11-18 in the region meaningful engagements with employers.

Mayor Houchen said: “The Tees Valley has a proud history in heavy engineering, but Appamondo is a shining example of our region’s ever-growing digital sector. The fact that they are working with some of our most recognisable brands including Arriva, GoAhead and Wickes, just shows how skilled they are at what they do.

“Not only are they thriving, creating jobs and boosting the regional economy, they’re also inspiring our young people and supporting the next generation of talented Teessiders. I look forward to seeing them grow and expand further over the coming years.”

Michael Smith said: “Our success is down to our agility and versatility. Tech rarely works ‘out of the box’, so our approach is to understand key vertical markets and custom-build in a way that makes it a much more effective and viable option.”

Rick Hutchinson added: “This agility and versatility extends to the company ethos in respect of developing our people and their environment. Young people are looking for an improved working environment, a better work-life balance and more flexible ways of working. Our objective is to embrace this in ways that benefit not just the individual but the company and its clients”
