New Tees Crossing

Transformational improvements to the road network are critical to help us achieve our vision to provide a high-quality, quick, affordable, reliable and safe transport network for people and freight to move within, to and from Tees Valley. A New Tees Crossing is one therefor one our main transport priorities for region and is seen as essential to facilitate growth.

The existing Tees Viaduct carries the A19 Trunk Road and suffers severe congestion at peak times. This daily congestion is frustrating for motorists and negatively impacts local businesses. To boost access to Enterprise Zones and strategically important sites, and to ease congestion, we need to provide a new strategic road crossing of the River Tees.

Providing a New Tees Crossing is therefore one of our main transport priorities for the region. It is seen as essential to facilitate growth and is supported and endorsed by Transport for the North.

On March 13th we began an eight week consultation period where we will be gathering the views of local businesses and the public on our plan to create a new crossing of the River Tees on the A19 that will be built in the vicinity of the existing A19 viaduct. The new crossing will improve people’s journey times, improve access to strategic sites, unlock development potential and support the economic growth of the region.

The views of local people are extremely important to us and we urge you to get involved in the consultation process. You can find out more about the scheme by downloading the brochure and roller banners below.

We will also be holding a series of public consultation events at the following times and locations:

Saturday March 16th 10am-2pm – Castlegate Centre, Stockton (outside B&M)

Tuesday March 19th 2pm – 6pm – Redcar Heart Leisure Centre, Redcar

Thursday March 21st 10am – 2pm – Middleton Grange Shopping Centre (next to B&M), Hartlepool

Saturday March 23rd 10am – 2pm – Hillstreet Centre (outside Superdrug), Middlesbrough

New Tees Crossing Virtual Consultation Room

If you can’t make any of these events we have set up a “Virtual Public Consultation Room” where you can see all materials from the public consultation.

Copies of the documents will also be available in municipal buildings across Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees throughout the consultation period and the full consultation materials will be on display at Stockton Central Library from March 26th 2019 until Friday May 17th 2019.
