Travel Agents Get Glimpse of the Future at Teesside International Airport

Dozens of travel agents from across the North East have been learning about the fantastic opportunities available at Teesside International Airport.

The airport, the region’s destination marketing service Enjoy Tees Valley, and airline partner KLM teamed up to showcase the hub to around 50 travel agents at a special event.

The attendees heard about the latest developments at Teesside International Airport and its exciting plans for the future, following its complete rebrand and a successful programme of summer holiday flights.

The special guests were given a presentation and tour of the facilities, while KLM also explained how customers had access to the world via Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, which the airline flies to regularly from Teesside International Airport.

Next summer, for the first time in seven years, local residents will be able to fly to the UK’s most popular holiday destination – Majorca. Thanks to a strong uptake this year, Balkan Holidays also confirmed a second season of its Bulgaria flights on sale now for next summer.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “We were delighted to welcome the travel agents to Teesside International alongside our airline partner KLM and the initial feedback has been incredibly positive.

“Some of the agents were not aware of how good our connections to the world are using the KLM link to the world class Amsterdam hub.

“There has been real momentum at the airport this year, with our popular rebrand bringing back the much-loved Teesside International name. We’re going from strength to strength, with 2020 tickets to Majorca, the UK’s most popular holiday destination, available now. We’re ready to show the world what we have to offer, and this was just the first step.”

Benedicte Duval, General Manager for Air France-KLM in the UK & Ireland said: “Having operated flights between Teesside and Amsterdam for over 30 years, we are delighted to partner with Teesside International Airport for this trade event. The success of any route is a three way relationship between airline, airport and the community. We are proud of our strong relationship with the UK travel trade and look forward to continuing to provide the Teesside community with worldwide connectivity from the convenience of their local airport.”

Judith Alderson, Director of Corporate Travel for Dawson & Sanderson Ltd added: “The team from Dawson & Sanderson had a most enjoyable evening with Teesside International Airport and KLM. We were very impressed with the improvements to the airport facilities and to hear about the expansion plans.  Our clients are certainly looking forward to using the airport more and taking advantage of the convenience of travelling from their local airport.”

The event followed comments from Teesside’s darts ace Glen Durrant, who uses the airport regularly and has described the airport’s staff as “the best in the world”.
