Help us plant one million trees in Tees Valley.
Trees on Tees is an exciting new programme stemming from the Tees Valley Mayor’s ambitious plan to plant one million trees and increase woodland creation in Tees Valley. Trees on Trees is part of England's Community Forests, a national network which works with local communities and landowners to plant trees across England to improve the natural environment, protect communities from flooding and improve access to green spaces in urban areas
The project aims to create an easily accessible assistance programme for all. Whether you’re a resident, a multinational company or any organisation or group in-between, we’ll help you to benefit from tree planting and boost woodland creation across the region.
The two-year programme will work with a wide range of organisations including businesses, landowners, farmers, communities, schools, environmental charities, and others to carry out the planting of one million trees.
The first part of the programme has seen the recruitment of four officers – a Project Coordinator and three Project Officers. The Project Officers will soon be/have been employed and their role will be to work with partners to find suitable sites for woodland creation and tree planting, support businesses, landowners, and community organisations to secure funding to deliver planting projects and to facilitate an annual free tree planting scheme for Tees Valley residents.
Businesses can help support Trees on Tees in a number of ways.
If you have land which you would like to plant trees on, contact Trees on Tees. Not all land may be suitable for planting, but we can give you advice on how to make sure that the right trees are planted in the right place at the right time.
Alternatively, you can donate directly to our Trees on Tees Community Fund. These donations will be used to fund our Residents Tree Giveaway and support communities, schools and businesses where other forms of tree planting grants are not available. If you donate over £500, we will send you a digital badge which you can use to show you are a supporter of local tree planting and woodland creation projects in Tees Valley.
It may be possible to match you directly with a community group or school which is looking for additional support with their planting schemes. We are looking for larger business donors who would be interested in funding more expensive bespoke regeneration projects, for example by funding the planting of street trees across all of Tees Valley.
The Trees on Tees team is available to support landowners and their agents to develop tree planting and woodland creation projects across Tees Valley.
Support is free and our expert and local Trees on Tees Project Officers will guide your project from an initial plan or idea, through the Trees on Tees Forest Delivery Pathway to delivery on the ground.
Following your initial enquiry, we’ll visit you on your land to make sure we understand your project requirements. Our team will provide as much support as you need to navigate the design, planning and planting process. We can provide any additional support you require by accessing the wide range of technical and professional expertise that exists across the Trees on Tees partnership. We may also be able to provide financial support for you to do some of the work yourselves or work with volunteers within your local community.
Free Trees!
From Tree Week, the first week in December until the end of March every winter, residents in Tees Valley will be able to pick up a free tree from a collection point. You can register on the Trees on Tees sign up page and we will let you know where to collect your tree closer to the time.
