Teessaurus Park, Middlesbrough

Easter Half-term FREE things to do

Blog | Published on: 27th February 2026

Spring has finally arrived, the days are getting lighter, and the Easter half-term is the perfect excuse to get everyone out of the house. The best bit? You don’t need to spend a fortune to make brilliant family memories.

Across Tees Valley, there are loads of completely free days out whether your family loves seaside strolls, park adventures, dinosaurs (who doesn’t?), or a bit of local history. Here are some lovely, budget-friendly ideas to keep everyone entertained this Easter.

Explore Teessaurus Park – Middlesbrough 🦖

If you’ve never been to Teessaurus Park, Easter is the perfect time to visit. Giant dinosaur sculptures suddenly appearing along riverside paths? It’s always a hit with kids (and secretly quite impressive for grown-ups too).

Pack a picnic, let the little ones burn off some energy, and enjoy a relaxed wander by the river. It’s simple, outdoorsy fun with just the right amount of wow-factor.

Have fun at Ropner Park – Stockton-on-Tees ⛲

Ropner Park is one of those places you can visit again and again and never get bored. Wide open lawns for running around, ducks waiting to be fed, and lovely ornamental gardens that really come to life in spring.

It’s ideal for a slow Easter afternoon. Grab a coffee, take a gentle walk around the lake, and let the kids just be kids.

Unwind at Ward Jackson Park – Hartlepool 🚶

This historic park is a real gem in Hartlepool. With beautifully kept gardens, wide pathways perfect for scooters and bikes, and plenty of space to spread out, it’s great for families of all ages.

Whether you fancy a relaxed stroll or just somewhere different to explore for the day, Ward Jackson Park makes an easy, no-cost Easter outing.

Breathe in the Sea Air at Saltburn Beach ⛱

There’s something about a trip to the coast that instantly feels like a mini holiday. Saltburn Beach is perfect for blowing away the cobwebs after winter. Think sandy toes, paddle attempts (if you’re brave enough!), and plenty of space for sandcastle competitions.

While you’re there, take a wander along the iconic Saltburn Pier for beautiful sea views, or explore Saltburn Valley Gardens for woodland walks and picnic spots. It’s simple, scenic, and completely free. Sometimes those are the best kind of days.

Step back in time at Hopetown – Darlington 🚂

If you’ve got little ones who love trains, Hopetown Darlington is a brilliant place to explore. Celebrating the town’s pioneering railway history, it combines restored buildings, heritage displays, and interactive exhibits that keep curious minds engaged.

It’s educational without feeling like a school trip, and with plenty of space to roam, it’s a great mix of learning and letting off steam.

You don’t need big plans or expensive tickets to have a memorable Easter half-term. Sometimes it’s as simple as packing snacks, pulling on wellies, and heading somewhere new for a few hours.

Tees Valley is full of hidden gems right on our doorstep, and this spring is the perfect time to rediscover them. 🌷
