Five Fab Half-Term Activities!

Blog | Published on: 19th September 2025

As the October half-term approaches, children across the country are looking forward to a well-earned break from school. For many, it’s their very first half-term holiday and a great chance to step away from the classroom, recharge, and enjoy some quality time with their family and friends.

Whether it’s heading outdoors for autumn adventures, or enjoying a vast range of activities around the region, half-term is the perfect opportunity to make lasting memories. So, embrace the season, plan something special, and make the most of this exciting break!

Here’s five of the best places we think you will enjoy 👇 ‎

1) Level X

Level X is a great place for kids of all ages to have fun and relax. With more many games and activities than you can think of, there’s always something to keep the family occupied; from arcade machines, dart boards and pool tables at the front, to bowling alleys, crazy golf, go karting and a huge range of arcade machines.

2) Preston Park Museum & Grounds

Step back in time at Preston Park Museum, where history comes to life. Explore the Victorian Street, get hands-on with interactive exhibitions, and discover fascinating collections. Afterward, head outdoors to enjoy autumn walks through the parkland, riverside, and adventure play area, perfect for burning off some energy. Plus there’s now a new exhibition at Preston Park where you can step inside and explore a new interactive place. Little designers, engineers and drivers are now able to get hands-on – with wheels to turn, coal to shovel and pistons to pump in the giant replica train and themed play zones.

3) RSPB Saltholme

For little explorers and nature lovers, RSPB Saltholme is a must for a visit. The reserve is full of wildlife to spot – from migrating birds to pond creatures – and the family-friendly trails are great for crisp autumn strolls. There is the play area to enjoy and plenty of  seasonal activities, making it fun and educational for all ages. Don’t miss out on the Beginner’s Photography Workshop with Stu Brown, on 1 November during Half-term. If you’re looking for a friendly relaxed way to get into the world of photography, this is for you.

It’s a brilliant mix of outdoor adventure and hands-on farmyard fun and with themed activities running throughout the holidays, there’s always something new to enjoy.  Also, you mustn’t miss out on the Halloween fun at the farm! Gather your mini ghosts and ghouls and head down to their popular pumpkin patch between the 25th and 31st October. The whole farm will have a frightfully fun transformation, so take a wander and spot all of their spooky sights.

For families with a sense of adventure, the Tees Barrage offers a huge rush of excitement. From paddleboarding and canoeing, to white-water rafting, the Barrage offers an adrenaline-fuelled way to spend a day. And if you’d prefer to stay dry, the riverside walks and viewing points make for a great family outing, too.
