It’s the spookiest time of the year, but you don’t need to look far to get your thrills and chills – there are plenty of frights on offer right across Tees Valley. Here are our pick – no tricks, just treats this Halloween!
One historic venue is looking into its petrifying past with a ghost walk scaring up some sinister spectres. Join Spiritus Paranormal for a look back at Skinningrove Mine’s death-filled past at Land of Iron on Saturday 26 October. Strictly not one for the kids!
Or if you’re a night owl, check out Jackson Wharf in Hartlepool which is hosting its own Pub Ghost Hunt from 11pm on Tuesday 29 October to 3.30am on Wednesday 30 October. Buy tickets here.
Expect a thrilling night of terror as the Scream Factory returns to Kirkleatham for 2024. Killer clowns, zombies and more roam the nine scare zones, with the Tunnels of Terror being new this year. You can feel the fear either alone or in groups – and youngsters aren’t spared, with their own Twilight Tour too!
If you want some adult laughs on the scariest night of the year, you’ll be screaming at FunnyBoyz Middlesbrough’s Halloween Party – with drag queens, DJs and decorations. 18+ only, book here for a night to remember.
Ormesby Hall is set to be transformed into a haunted house for families to explore between 24 October and 3 November. The Walking Theatre Company will be performing the Zombie Pirate show throughout the day, with the Witches Dance returning, and you can explore the house at night on Halloween evenings. There’s a whole host of goings-on at Preston Park from 26 October to 3 November, including pop-up pumpkin games, magic themed arts and crafts, and a workshop and evening including magician Chris Cowl for youngsters. Check out all the events here.
From Saturday 19 October, Darlington’s Hopetown is taking on a terrifying transformation to become Spooktown. Take your kids to the haunted passenger train that has appeared in the Carriage Works and meet its ghostly inhabitants. There are also some frightfully fabulous workshops taking place too! Finally, pirates might not be traditional Halloween fayre, but they’re certainly fearsome – and kids can have fun training at Pirate school, with cutlass classes, rope-making, spooky craft and much more at Hartlepool’s National Museum of the Royal Navy on 31 October and 1 November – all you need is a valid Museum ticket.
Stockton’s ARC is holding its annual Not So Spooky Monster Bash on Saturday 19 October. Suitable for kids aged one to seven, there’ll be funky tunes for your little ones to enjoy. Finally, Darlington’s Theatre Hullabaloo – the only dedicated children’s theatre outside London – is hosting various events including Halloween crafts and spooky storytelling for kids aged up to 10.
