Spring into Action with Music and Outdoor Fun

Kicking off in March and running all the way through to November is an unmissable year of events celebrating the 200th anniversary of the first journey on the Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR200).

The S&DR200 Festival will present a series of free large-scale outdoor spectacles, events, exhibitions and new art commissions in the public spaces, libraries and world-class museums of County Durham and Tees Valley from March to November 2025.

April kicks off with two unmissable music events. Music lovers can head to Middlesbrough for Twisterella. This award-winning festival champions fresh, cutting-edge artists in an intimate setting, making it a must for anyone wanting to get ahead of the music curve.

Soon after, Stockton Calling, a multi-venue music festival held every Easter weekend, features an eclectic mix of emerging and established acts. It’s the perfect way to discover new talent while soaking up the buzzing atmosphere across Stockton’s iconic venues.

May brings outdoor adventures and family fun. Take Me to the Forest, a celebration of nature and wellbeing, invites visitors to explore beautiful woodland spaces with activities like forest bathing, guided walks, and live performances.

From May to September on the last Saturday of every month, Middlesbrough’s Baker and Bedford Street and Centre square will play host to the Orange Pip Market. Pop along for the best in local food, drink, live music and workshops.

For animal lovers, Bark in the Park offers a pawsome day out in Middlesbrough, providing a great get-together for pooches and owners alike. Later in the month, the skies over Redcar will be filled with colour at the Redcar Kite Festival, an awe-inspiring spectacle of giant, handmade kites soaring above the coast.

Summer Delights for the Whole Family

As summer arrives, Tees Valley’s event calendar heats up. July begins with Hullabaloo in the Park, an outdoor extravaganza in Darlington featuring theatre, storytelling, and crafts for kids and families. It’s a magical experience for all ages.

Later in the month, the renowned Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF) takes center stage, transforming Stockton into a hub of creativity with jaw-dropping street theatre, circus performances, and interactive installations. This globally acclaimed festival is a true highlight of the Tees Valley summer.

August is another exciting month, starting with Between the Tides in Redcar, a seaside celebration of art, culture, and community that takes full advantage of the town’s stunning coastal location. Middlesbrough also shines with the annual Middlesbrough Mela, a vibrant festival of South Asian culture featuring delicious food, live music, and a bustling bazaar.

Throughout August there will also be fabulous Pride events taking place across the boroughs celebrating our LGBTQ+ including Cleveland Pride in Saltburn and Darlington Pride in July

Autumn Adventures and Creative Wonders

As summer fades, the festivals keep coming. September offers a chance to reconnect with sustainability and creativity at the Festival of Thrift in Billingham. This much-loved event encourages eco-friendly living through workshops, upcycled art, and delicious local food stalls, all delivered with a fun and festive vibe.

Art enthusiasts won’t want to miss Middlesbrough Art Week, which showcases the work of talented local and national artists across various venues. It’s a fantastic opportunity to explore contemporary art in all its forms, from exhibitions to interactive events.
