    Getting Here

Tees Valley is one of the most accessible and best-connected destinations in the UK.

Teesside International Airport is serviced by inbound flights from European and UK destinations with three flights daily to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

By road, the A19 and A1M offer easy access and Darlington is situated on the East Coast Train Mainline, offers direct access to London and Edinburgh in just over two hours. Additionally, Middlesbrough provides convenient rail connections.

For visitors from Continental Europe, DFDS Seaways ferry services operate between the Port of Tyne and Amsterdam, while the Hull-Zeebrugge, or Hull to Rotterdam ferry terminus, are within a two-hour drive of the Tees Valley.

    Off The Course

The Tees Valley is a geographical area at the lowest stretches of the River Tees, and is home to the towns of Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees. It’s an emerging destination for tourists seeking active leisure breaks including golf, water sports, hiking, cycling and more.

On the coast, there’s great surfing and adrenaline-packed water sports at Tees Barrage, from rafting and standup paddleboarding to sea kayaking. Straight from making birdies on the course, you can visit RSPB Saltholme and see rare birds in the wild and learn how this nature reserve is essential to bird and wildlife conservation in Middlesbrough’s post-industrial landscape.

Maritime history is rich in the Tees Valley, from seafaring explorer Captain James Cook to the National Museum of the Royal Navy at Hartlepool Waterfront. The town hosted the prestigious Tall Ships Race in 2010 and 2023.

Preston Park Museum and Grounds is a window into living history in North East England, and Darlington’s Hopetown is an interactive attraction that celebrates the birthplace of steam-powered passenger rail on the S&DR (Stockton Darlington Railway) in 1825.

In Autumn and Winter, visitors can enjoy the excitement of watching EFL (English Football League) Championship games at Middlesbrough FC’s Riverside Stadium and National League Football at Hartlepool F.C.’s Victoria Park. For nature lovers, you can choose to easily visit the North York Moors National Park, or nearby Durham Dales – including High Force, England’s largest waterfall in Teesdale.
