Hartlepool railway station is located in the centre of the town and also near the marina. It has direct services to and from a range of destinations including Middlesbrough, Thornaby, Stockton, Sunderland and Newcastle.

Further afield there are also direct trains to London Kings Cross and connections via Middlesbrough to the Transpennine Express from Manchester which calls at Northallerton, Thirsk, York, Leeds, Dewsbury and Huddersfield.

Hartlepool is well connected for local bus services, with Stagecoach and Arriva both operating services. Stagecoach bus 1 runs from Middlesbrough via Billingham, Port Clarence and Seaton Carew to Hartlepool town centre. Arriva provides services including the 23 linking Hartlepool to Peterlee and 24 connecting to Durham.
