Come and join local naturalists as we try and record as many species as possible in 24 hours (BioBlitz).

Friday 16th June
Yacht Club End
9.30pm Bat Walk – Observe bats and use detectors to ‘hear’ their echolocation calls.
Start from Yacht Club End car park.
Moth Viewing – Moth trappers will exhibit any highlights
attracted to their lights by the end of the bat walk.
Saturday 17th June
All activities at Whitby End unless noted otherwise.
7.00am Small Mammals – Opening traps set overnight to
observe and release any small mammals.
8.00am to Noon
Bird Watching – Guides on hand in the Bird Hide (Yacht
Club End) to help with spotting. Telescope available.
9.00am to Noon
Stalls Open:
Information Point – Start point and sign-up sheets for
guided walks at Whitby End. Activity schedule.
Big Wild Weekend – #30DaysWild, spotter sheets,
quizzes, mini-beast hunting.
Wildlife Identification – Bring photos for help identifying
findings. Field guides and microscope. Mini-exhibitions.
Bat Crafts & Information– Finger puppets, bat masks,
origami bats, bat hats, quizzes and more!
Bioblitz Wildlife Observations Record all your sightings
to add to the total species seen over 24 hours.
9.30am Moss Identification – Study moss samples and learn about their detail with the help of a microscope.
9.30am Mini-beast Hunt – Prepare to be amazed by the number and variety of creatures in vegetation all around.
10.00am Moth Viewing – See highlights from the previous night’s moth traps prior to release of the moths.
10.30am Moorland Birds – An introduction to the birds of the woodland and moorland. Start at Car Park, Yacht Club End.
10.30am Wildflower Identification – Wildflowers of a meadow and bog. Start at Information Point. Simple identification.

10.30am Butterflies – View butterflies in meadowland. Start at information Point. Limited numbers.
11.00am Water Quality Monitoring – Demonstration of water quality monitoring using aquatic invertebrates
11.45am Dragonfly Walk – Learn about dragonflies and
damselflies around the reservoir and at a small pond
