Festival of Thrift 2026

The much-loved Festival of Thrift returns to Kirkleatham Museum and Grounds on 4 –5 July, 11am – 5pm. Come along for a free weekend of sustainability, creativity and family fun. 

Across two packed days, visitors can roam the grounds and enjoy outdoor performances, hands-on workshops, interactive installations, pre-loved fashion and market stalls from independent makers. It’s all about living well, getting inspired and caring for our planet—while having loads of fun! 

Expect a mix of Thrifty favourites (including the beloved Best In Show) and new surprises. There’s plenty to see, do, make and explore for all ages. Whether you love crafting, dressing up or discovering new ways of treading lightly on this planet, this festival is full of opportunities to get involved. 

Entry is free and you are welcome to bring a picnic or enjoy delicious food and drink onsite.

The closest train station to the museum is Redcar Central. This station is serviced regularly by the Northern Rail service from Bishop Auckland to Saltburn. This is 3 miles from the museum. There is a bus stop within the village where the Arriva North East services 81, 81A, stop – this is on the main road through Kirkleatham, and another on Kirkleatham Lane which is the main road at the top of the village where the 63 bus service stops. There is a short walk of approximately 5 minutes from both of these bus stops.
