Redcar Kite Festival returns to the skies above Majuba Beach this year on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June. Following the success of last year’s inaugural event by Redcar and Cleveland Council which attracted more than 17,000 visitors, the free family-friendly festival supported by Tees Valley Combined Authority will once again welcome some of the largest and most spectacular kites in the world courtesy of Northern Kite Group.
Times will vary according to three wind conditions but there will be kites in the sky from 10am-4pm both days with displays to music; stunt kites; kites ballets; beginners corner and giant inflatable character kites.
There will also be free kite making workshops so you can fly your own kite and free science, art and craft activities.
Amazing walkabout performers will celebrate Redcar’s coastal location – including giant stilt walking octopi; magical Cloud Travellers who cast raindrops from the tips of their fingers and a debonair sea captain and his water skiing wife.
There will also a full music programme and a street food market.
Much of Majuba Car Park will be closed for the event so please park in town centre car parks including Kirkleatham Street, Seafield House and the Civic Centre.
Disabled parking is available at Majuba.
Food & drink - a street food market will offer everything from pizzas to sweet treats and Redcar has many cafes and restaurants too. Or you can bring your own food and picnic on the beach (please dispose of rubbish in the bins provided)
Portable toilets on site - including disabled toilets.
Changing Place toilets at Redcar Library, Moore Street and Redcar Leisure Centre (please note a RADAR key is required for access).
Please note it is approximately a 10 minute walk from Redcar Town Centre to the Kite Festival site at Majuba Beach.
