What is Tees Valley Wheels 2 Work?

The scheme is designed to provide an innovative way of overcoming transport barriers by hiring an electric motorbike or electric bicycle to working age people in the Tees Valley for up to a six-month period, until a longer-term transport solution can be found.

How does the hire work?

An electric motorbike or bicycle can be hired from the scheme from £21 a week to support eligible Tees Valley residents who are unable to access employment or training due to living in remote areas which are currently not well serviced by public transport links or who work outside of normal working hours.

Is an electric motorbike or bicycle right for me?

Electric motorbike

Maintenance and service included: Yes
Charge time: 3-4hrs per battery  (the electric motorbike has two batteries)
Range: 45 miles per battery
Min age: 17
Training required: Compulsory basic training (CBT) and provisional licence
Other benefits: 24/7 RAC Breakdown Cover

Cost: £30 per week including VAT

Electric Bicycle

Type of bike: Haibike Trekking 4 High, Haibike HardSeven 4 and Raleigh Motus
Speed: 15-16 mph
Maintenance and service included: Yes
Charge time: 2hrs
Range: 25 – 80 miles (depending on the model)
Min age: 16
Training required: None
Other benefits: Added health and fitness benefits
Safety equipment: We provide a chain lock for the e-Cycle free of charge. For an additional cost, we can provide safety equipment including a cycle helmet and high visibility waistcoat.

Who is Tees Valley Wheels 2 Work for?

To be eligible for the scheme you need to be able to answer yes to the statements below:

  • I live in the Tees Valley (Darlington, Stockton, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland)
  • I have a firm offer of a job, training course or college place, and am able to produce written proof OR I am already in work, training or college, but am struggling to get there
  • There is no convenient public transport for my journey
  • I am at least 17 years’ old
  • If under 18, I have a parent or guardians’ consent to join the scheme
  • I have a provisional driving licence
  • I am willing to undertake and pass the CBT (Compulsory Basic Training)
  • I am able pay the upfront payment and regular hire payments required for the duration of the hire period
  • I am able to pay the required insurance excess in the event of an accident, damage or theft (£500)
  • I will comply with the terms and conditions of the hire

Is there any funding support for Wheels2Work?

If you are receiving benefits from Job Centre Plus (JCP) you could be entitled to funding to help towards the cost of the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course, safety equipment, such as helmets and gloves, or even your first months’ hire. Speak to your JCP coach to find out more.

This information will only be shared for the purpose of letting you know about the Wheels 2 Work Scheme:Redcar & Cleveland Voluntary Development Agency (RCVDA) (https://www.rcvda.org.uk/)These partners have the systems in place to properly protect the data we send them. You can find their individual privacy policies at the links given above. But all data shared as a result of your re-registration will only be processed as set out in this notice.

How long will we keep your personal data?
We will keep the database for up to 12 months, at which time we may contact you to confirm whether or not you want us to continue to hold your contact details and send you information about future jobs. This is set out in our Data Retention Policy.

How can I be removed from this database?
You can ask us to stop contacting you about Wheels 2 Work at the TVCA site or to ask us to delete your contact details from our database at any time. Simply email us at [email protected] and we will delete your data within one week.

We also include an unsubscribe link at the bottom of our e-marketing emails – you can use that link to opt out of receiving further email marketing about Wheels 2 Work.
