Work placements and taster sessions for young people aged 18-21 who are not in education, employment, or training.
Are you missing the right work experience to land the job or training opportunities you want?
You’re not alone. 47% of young people say lack of work experience is their biggest barrier to securing employment (Youth Employment UK, 2024).
Local employers are now offering work taster sessions and high-quality paid placements to help you build your skills and experiences.
For three and six-month work placements you’ll be paid the National Minimum Wage which is currently £10 per hour for those aged 18-20, and £12.21 per hour for those aged 21+.
The taster sessions are unpaid, but you may be eligible for help with travel costs.
Up to £2,500 towards certified training, qualifications and upskilling.
Up to £450 towards the cost of purchasing basic IT equipment (for example, a laptop or tablet) or towards internet connection, to help with job searches and online training.
Help with travel costs may also be available and can be tailored to your individual needs.
By signing up you are guaranteed a meeting with a key worker who can help you access education and training opportunities. You will then be supported to apply for work taster sessions and paid placements.
If you’re aged 18-21, not currently in education, employment, or training, and are living in Tees Valley (Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees), then you are eligible to apply.
