Redcar Central Station

Overview

Redcar Central Station is a Grade II listed Victorian station and train shed built in c1860 for the extension coastwards of the Stockton-Darlington railway. It was last in use as a business centre which closed in 2013 and has not seen railway use since the late 1980s.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have agreed a long lease of the building from the Arch Company, a new organisation that purchased the majority of Network Rail’s commercial properties in 2017.

The plans viewable here will see the Station building and train shed restored to its former glory. Potential uses for the revamped station are being explored but it is expected to have a mix of daytime and evening uses such as:

Rail uses – Covered waiting area, automatic ticket machines, rail and other live transport information

Bar, restaurant, shops, café, flexible spaces, markets, events, community activities, flexible workspaces, toilets (including accessible spaces and changing facilities).

The 1,390sq m site will be available to let as a whole or in parts for Retail or Leisure uses, with three, five or ten-year lease terms or further terms to be agreed.
