Lackenby Lorry Park

British Steel is proposing a significant investment to install an Electric Arc Furnace at its site, in Lackenby. 

A total of £20million was signed off by TVCA Cabinet for this project in January 2024. 

This funding will deliver a new Transport Hub/Lorry Park and associated road works to provide a new access off the A66/Tees Dock Roundabout.  

The transport hub will be utilised in several ways:  

• As a holding area for British Steel’s scrap delivery lorries for the proposed Electric Arc Furnace. 
• To serve other vehicle movements to/from the Freeport. 
• As a general stopover facility.
