The Grade II* listed Bridge was opened in 1911. It has been a mainstay of the Teesside skyline for more than a century and is part of the fabric of the region’s cultural identity.
It also offers a link between Port Clarence and Middlesbrough and remains the further downstream bridge crossing over the River Tees.
It is managed in a joint arrangement between Middlesbrough Council and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
Safety concerns have seen the bridge closed since 2019.
A package of interventions will be required to bring the bridge back to full operational use.
