Mayor’s Message
We welcomed a VIP to Teesworks this month, with HRH King Charles III visiting SeAH Wind’s monopile production facility to see how the mammoth factory is progressing and to meet the workers already on site. It’s now just a matter of weeks until the expected completion date, which will see the creation of 750 good-quality, well-paid jobs.
To make sure the next generation have the skills they need – and those that industry needs – to secure the jobs of the future, a £1million training programme has been launched. Backed by Net Zero Teesside Power and the Northern Endurance Partnership, which are creating the flagship power plant with carbon capture capabilities at Teesworks, the Tees Valley Net Zero Industry Scholarship will help give people vital skills in a host of disciplines such as welding, instrumentation and electrical engineering.
Our airport is also benefitting from the innovative industries of the future, with work beginning on a pioneering hydrogen vehicle refuelling station. The region has been an early adopter of hydrogen, hosting low-emissions hydrogen fuelled vehicles back in 2021. This builds on the work we’re doing as a Government-backed Hydrogen Transport Hub.
We’ve also got some case studies below to show how our support is directly impacting businesses and students, and we’re also set to take off to a global Tech and Arts festival in Texas to once again put us on the global stage.
